First Camping Trip of the Year
Last weekend I went camping. Rob and I stayed here. A ranger at Linville Falls told us last summer that the Crabtree Meadows campground never filled up because it was so large and because there was no fast food near there. But I tell you, that campground filled up last weekend. There was some group, a family reunion or something, that came through early Saturday morning and staked out every empty campsite. All Saturday evening their kids ran around screaming and yelling, but at least they stayed in a clearing across the road from us.
This waterfall is quite close to the campground. We hiked there Saturday afternoon and discovered a bunch of the people from that group there. They were standing around while their unrestrained children were clambering all over the rocks.
Later that day we went into Marion for supplies, and I spotted this interesting-looking place, but that's something for a future trip.
On Sunday we hiked to this waterfall, which is much more impressive than it looks in that photograph; it's actually seventy feet tall.
